It’s February at last – the month of love! And as a beautiful introduction to the month of love, let’s talk about music as a language of love.
If we think about it carefully, music really can pull at the heartstrings, mend a broken heart, uplift us when we’re feeling down. It really is that powerful. And quite often it’s literally the physics of the sound waves of music travelling through our bodies that create a thrilling reaction. It can also be the lyrics of a song, the mood of a piece of music, or simply the tempo that sets the bar for how music makes you feel.
Tempo, mood and lyrics
Think about something like the song, Oh, when the saints go marching in. It makes you tap your feet along with the rhythm, doesn’t it? It’s rousing and anthemic.
The Eye Of The Tiger is another hugely emotive piece of music. The drum beat of the song plus the link with the feel-good movie, Rocky 3, really do stir the emotions when it’s played. For me, it makes me want to get up and start training to be a boxer. Until the song stops and everything returns to normal!
Cry Me a River is sad and sorrowful and has the power to make us feel those emotions when we play the record.
